November 2019

It has been another busy month at #TeamPelican and I would like to start by sharing some of the fantastic work that has been carried out for, and within our local community.

Firstly, and narrowly missing my previous blog, Pelican Towers was feeling incredibly spooky during our annual ‘Halloween Extravaganza’, raising money for our current quarterly charity, The NICU Foundation.

Our people managed to raise an amazing £466.68 in a single day! An extra special shout out to the members of the team who organised additional games and competitions across our business.

Alongside our quarterly charities, we also like to make sure we raise money for other worthy causes throughout the year and it was great to take part in Children in Need this year. With money raised through dress down, games and a pretty epic bake off, the team managed to raise a very impressive £608.43.

Each year, every single team member receives a days paid leave to volunteer out in our community and this month our Finance and Cash Office team joined forces with Weston-Super-Mare Food Bank.

The morning was spent in the Foodbank distribution building offloading the donations as deliveries came in, labelling the expiry dates and stacking the shelves. In the afternoon, they teamed up with some students from Weston College at Tesco looking to encourage customers to add an item (or items) from the Foodbank leaflet onto their shop. The generosity of the afternoon shoppers was extremely heart-warming, including one lady who donated an entire trolley full of items. A massive 615kgs of items were donated which is the equivalent to around 65 food parcels for those in need around the Weston area!

November is also the time we hold our six monthly team member seminars, which always begin with our Leadership Event.

It was another fantastic opportunity for me to spend time with the entirety of our leadership team and provide a number of key updates and focusses for 2020. It is also chance to recognise leaders who have been working tirelessly to improve our businesses for our customers and our people.

Our next seminar is for our field based Meter Reading teams where we spent the entire day at Haynes Motor Museum celebrating some of our key achievements over the last six months and look ahead at what the next six months has in store.

Last, but by no means least, we held our team member briefs, an opportunity for me to spend time with every single member of our team. A huge shout out to all of our worthy value award winners. One of my favourite parts of each session is sharing the amazing stories about those who have really gone above and beyond to live our values for both our customers and our people.

Throughout November we not only welcomed some new members into our flock, we also celebrated another graduation from our Customer Services Academy.

A warm welcome to the new members of #TeamPelican and massive congratulations to those graduating from our award winning academy.

Finally, our health and wellbeing team have been working hard to continually develop activities and initiatives that support both physical and mental wellbeing. This month we held the first in a new range of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) sessions.

It was fantastic to see so many of the team attend and I look forward to what our fabulous health and wellbeing team have planned as we move into December. Whatever they have planned, I know it is going to be extremely festive!
