Double award winners, summer celebrations, Talk Club: read on for my latest highlights.

South West Contact Centre Award winners!

Starting with summer awards season, it was fantastic to see the Pelican team win two accolades at the South West Contact Centre Awards 2025 in June:

  • Diversity & Inclusion

To be recognised in two heavily people-focused areas says a lot about who we are as a business. We invest a huge amount of time in developing rewarding career pathways for our people, many of whom have progressed to more senior roles having shown their expertise in another part of the business.

With a lot of work going into both the award submissions and judges' presentations, to come away with a double award win is no mean feat. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome!

Summer celebrations

One of my favourite times of the year was timed perfectly to coincide with one of the hottest weekends of the summer! First up was our Summer Social 2025 at Nailsea & Backwell Rugby Club. It was great to see team members from Pelican enjoying a relaxed catch-up over some amazing food from local caterer Nana’s Caribbean (the jerk chicken was my personal highlight) and get involved with a big game of rounders. We had lots of positive feedback about the event and will no doubt be planning something similar next year.

The following day, I joined a group of team members at Bristol Pride 2025. In temperatures topping 30 degrees, we took part in the Parade March, flying our Pelican flags through Bristol city centre. I’m always very proud to see us show our support for Pride and it will always be a big part of our annual calendar.

Our June 2025 Leadership Event

What a day!

At the end of June, we welcomed our leaders to stunning Cadbury House for our latest Leadership Event. It was a packed day full of insights, collaboration, and inspiration.

✨ People Promises Check-in: we reviewed our progress on our 2025 People Promises, looking at how far we've come and what exciting steps are next.

✨ Talk Club Mental Fitness Workshop: we had a brilliant session with special guests from UK male mental health organisation Talk Club, equipping us with valuable tools to support ourselves and our teams.

✨ South West Contact Centre Award presentations: we heard from our amazing presenters across four of our entries this year – it was fantastic to see all the hard work that went into the awards.

✨ Celebrating Our Standout Leaders: we took some time to shine a spotlight on those leaders who have really stood out from the crowd.

Our leaders left brimming with energy and new insights to take back to their teams.

Welcoming our new People’s Council reps

In August, we held our first get together with our new 2025/26 People's Council reps.

We describe our People’s Council as ‘the eyes and ears of the business’ and it’s always a privilege to welcome our new reps. Over the coming year, they will be responsible for representing their team by sharing what they think has gone well, and putting forward suggested improvements that could benefit our people and customers.

We are excited to have our new council together for the coming 12 months and I’m looking forward to seeing their fantastic ideas taken forward.
