The word of the month at #TeamPelican is community!
Although we have a dedicated charity that the team support every quarter, the team are always on the lookout for amazing causes to support throughout the year.
First up and a big shout out to Louise from our Credit department was hard at work over the Easter period collecting Easter Eggs and gifts to donate to the Wallace and Gromit Bristol Children’s hospital appeal. Across the business, the team generously donated a total of 92 items to donate to this fantastic charity.
This month the team also sported their team’s colours with pride for ‘Football Shirt Friday’ raising money for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.
The Bobby Moore Fund raises awareness and money for life saving bowel cancer research and since the fund was set up in 1993 mortality rates have fallen by more than 30%! The team managed to raise a fantastic £208.61 without too much team rivalry at the same time!
April also marks the beginning of a new quarter meaning a chance to support another amazing charity for the next three months. This quarter we are supporting Headway Bristol, a local charity who provide social and cognitive rehabilitation for adults with brain injury along with support and respite for their families.
We were very grateful that representatives from Headway Bristol joined our People’s Council meeting this month and gave a short presentation on the amazing services they provide and shared a few emotional stories from their service users. The team already have lots of plans in place to raise as much money as possible over the next three months and I can’t wait to provide you with an update on our progress.
On the theme of our People’s Council, it was great to get the team together again this month to share some of our favourite highlights from the last quarter. It’s also a chance to put forward new and exciting plans on how we can provide continually amazing service to our customers and make Pelican and even better place to work.
One item we discussed that I am particularly excited about, is our first ever company visit to Bristol’s Gay Pride celebrations held on Saturday 14th July.
Gay Pride is organised as a positive way to fight discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, promoting equal rights, celebrating a community that is diverse and most of all, #Proud
We have put together our very own ‘Pride Patrol’ who will be working hard over the next few months planning the day and raising awareness of this extremely important day. If you will be joining in with the Gay Pride celebrations in July, keep your eyes peeled for the bright yellow banners (you can’t miss us) and come and say hello!
In other news, our Business Manager Oliver Jerrome attended the Young Enterprise West of England area final this month where we were sponsoring the ‘Green/Ethical Award’. Young Enterprise works with more than 250,000 students every year and thousands of young people aged 15-19 from across the country have set up and run a real business or social enterprise over the academic year with Company Programme – Young Enterprise’s flagship enterprise education programme.

It was a fantastic day spent with many talented young People from across the region and we wish Team Evoke the best of luck in the national finals!
Finally this week and onto Health and Wellbeing and our meter reading team have been hard at work again with their team spin sessions. It certainly is a different environment from their normal team huddles and no doubt a little bit more exhausting!
