March kicked off with the team digging around their wardrobes for their warmest jumpers, snow boots and in some cases sledges!
I want to say a huge thank you to every member of the team that made it in during the worst of the snow on Friday 2nd March. It was fantastic to see such a team effort to ensure we still provide our customers with the best possible service whatever the weather!
A special thank you to our brave external teams who battled the snow to read as many meters as possible! Although cold, their team spirit never let up and I really enjoyed seeing some of the photos they were emailing in whilst out and about.
It just so happens that Friday 2nd March was the day we had exciting plans in place for our team to celebrate our recent placement in the Sunday Times Best Companies list. A bit of quick thinking and re-organisation later, the plans were moved to the Monday and we had a fantastic day celebrating with a business wide buffet and a special Pelican Cake! I asked the team to send me photos of them in action and I was not disappointed
Just another reason I am so proud to be part of #TeamPelican.
Keeping on the theme of being #Proud, I want to share a story about Stu from our Chippenham Meter Reading team. Stu was out on his daily rounds when he heard a lady calling for help. On looking over her front wall, he saw the lady who had fallen down in the cold weather. She looked very shaken so Stu called for medical help and stayed with her trying to keep her warm until the paramedics and ambulance arrived. Another example of our team really going above and beyond to take care of our customers.
Next up and I have recently received yet more feedback from our Live Chat Service. As always, I have absolutely loved reading through all of the amazing comments left by our customers and I would like to share a few of my favorites with you:
Karen was very helpful and provided a professional and quick service giving me all the info I needed and helped with getting me into my portal.
Customer service is brilliant. Jennie, helped my any way she could. Very polite and very helpful.
A great Chat online service, very good and I would recommend it! Nicola was excellent at her job.
Jade was extremely helpful to me. She was patient and took the time to answer all my questions in a polite manner – however daft they may have come across to her. Very much appreciated.
Jordan. Very pleasant chap, hang on to him!
It’s great to see our Live Chat team delivering for customers in what is an ever more popular way to get in touch!
Onto Health and Wellbeing and our Hiking Club have been at it again as they recently hiked to scenic Draycott Sleights, a Somerset nature reserve now designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Starting near the village centre the team headed up Batcombe Hollow and through the nature reserve where they encountered lots of snow and enjoyed great views to Glastonbury Tor and Bristol Water’s huge reservoir at Cheddar.
Founder member Alex said: “it’s a really beautiful environment up here and it brings back memories for me because I was walking here with friends when I received the telephone call offering me my job at Pelican”.
Finally this month I want to share a story of some of our team who made the most of our Community Involvement scheme. Judith, Lauren, Alex, Scott and Matt from our Finance and Cash Office teams spent a day volunteering with the West of England Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Therapy Centre in Bradley Stoke. Luckily, the weather on the day was great as they started work on a big project for a sensory garden for users of the centre. The team worked alongside other volunteers from the Avon Wildlife Trust and Rolls Royce to cut back brambles and dig out holes for a 200 trees to be planted! They all had a thoroughly enjoyable day, with only a few aches the next day and we are so pleased to have used their time supporting such a worthwhile organisation.
I look forward to sharing with you everything the team get up to throughout April! I wish you all a happy and healthy Easter.
